Hey there Saints…and Sinners :)
The sun was out yesterday – and we’re supposed to see it again for a while today. Every bit helps in the Pacific Northwest – and in this rather dark, depressing political season, eh?
One statistic I saw indicated that half of American voters are struggling with higher than usual levels of anxiety due to this election. (And yes, I know, I’m pretty sick of statistics, too – except maybe the one that said 73% of all statistics are made up!)
Anyway, I know we are all ready for it to just. be. over. But, please let me encourage you to vote by next Tuesday. It is a high honor and vital duty that we GET to exercise in a democracy like ours.
AND, let me also remind us that whoever wins on November 8, God is still sovereign. Or, as Richard Mouw, President Emeritus of Fuller Seminary (my alma mater) recently put it: “The only nation we really belong to is the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, and that is spread among the nations of the earth.”
And then on November 9? Well, we know that at least some 40% or so of the electorate will be unhappy. So, let’s continue to work out of a deep desire to be faithful to the gospel, even as we press on to work for political civility and the common good. In other words, let’s…
Be the church!
P.S. Don’t forget Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend – set your clock back one hour on Saturday night November 5th!
