Our Covenant 2010

With the help of God and one another, I will do my best in 2010 to:

Consistently learn from scripture with others

Creatively use my talents in a ministry

Faithfully invest God’s tithe in the church

What is the Biblical meaning of covenant?
In Biblical terms, a covenant is a promise that God makes to which we agree, which becomes our promise to God and one another. It refers primarily to the promise of a restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ, if we agree to receive him as Savior and follow him as Lord. When we do that together, we fulfill the covenant, which is to love God and one another, to be a people who are blessed by God, and a blessing to the world. That is God’s dream for us.

What is the purpose of our covenant?
Our covenant invites us to practice some basic Biblical disciplines through which God delivers the dream. It’s happened before: When God’s people returned from exile, they made a “firm covenant in writing” to “observe and do all the commandments” of the Lord... (Nehemiah 9-10). The people signed it, to say to one another, “You can count on me; we’re in this together.” It helped to solidify and unify their community, to take a significant step toward fulfilling their dream. That is the purpose of our covenant.

How do we fulfill the covenant?
The covenant invites us to practice four basic disciplines together: Worship, Grow, Serve and Give. To find out ways to practice these disciplines, click on the bolded words in “Our Covenant 2010” above, or go to the “Get Involved” link on the Homepage Menu.

How do we make the covenant commitment?
Each year we participate in a covenant renewal as a congregation, when we sign our covenant cards and offer them as an act of worship. If you want to become part of our covenant community, you can make that commitment any time. Covenant cards are available in the Chapel and Church office. If you are ready to make this commitment, we encourage you to speak with one of the pastors before signing and offering your card during an upcoming worship service.
